Kansas City Chiefs: Rashee Rice Makes 1st Public Comments Regarding Reported Legal Issues
The Kansas City Chiefs are the back-to-back Super Bowl Champions. While this offseason should have spent focusing on how they could become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls, much of it was spent battling various public relations nightmares. What should have been a celebratory offseason turned out to be one filled with a series of unfortunate events.
While the controversial comments made by kicker Harrison Butker have dominated headlines and talk shows for about a month, they were not the first things to steal attention away from the Chiefs’ quest for another repeat.
Earlier this year, no less than three disturbing stories involving wide receiver Rashee Rice were made public, and many wonder if the second-year pro will even be available for the entire 2024 NFL season because of them.
The first incident in which Rice was involved came early in the offseason. According to allegations, the Chiefs’ leading wide receiver was the cause of a high-speed car accident in Dallas, Texas. Allegedly, he was driving his car 119 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
To make matters worse, Rice and the individuals with him, left the scene of the accident before authorities arrived. Rice is now facing a $1 million civil lawsuit brought by two people that were injured in the accident. Additionally, he has had eight felony charges brought against him related to the incident.
Not long after the accident, Rice was accused of assaulting a photographer at a Dallas night club. The original accuser, though, has since dropped the charges. Even so, the alleged incident was another concerning development regarding Rice’s character.
Finally, it was also revealed that Rice was involved in a non-lethal shooting while he was still a student at SMU. According to reports, Rice fired a gun into the car of another student athlete. All NFL teams knew about the incident prior to the 2023 NFL Draft.
