Kid Rock has refused to apologize for his drunken outburst in which he specifically targeted Oprah Winfrey and Joy Behar at his Nashville honky-tonk in 2019.
“A drunk man’s words are a sober man’s ideas; I own what I said,” the rapper, actual name Robert James Richie, stated during a recent Tucker Carson Originals episode on Fox Nation.
The program, titled “Life of a Rockstar,” featured Carlson visiting Kid Rock on tour, including a visit to his ranch.
When they did an interview together, the singer said the same things about Winfrey and Behar that he had said three years before.
“I make no apologies to anyone.” I’m not a fan of Oprah Winfrey. “I got drunk, and the next thing you know, I’m on stage, yelling f— Oprah,” the performer explained.
TMZ posted a video of Kid Rock onstage in 2019 saying, “F— Oprah Winfrey and f— Joy Behar.” He also made an unintended assault on Kathie Lee Gifford, explaining that he meant to address comic Kathy Griffin.
“I was trying to go after Kathy Griffin for putting Trump’s head up, you know, but I’m so out of it that I’m like, ‘F— Kathie Lee Gifford,’” he said. “A couple of weeks later, when it comes back on TMZ or anything, I’m like, ‘Oh man, I like Kathie Lee Gifford.’” Throughout the years, we’ve been friendly.
“I’m feeling a little awful right now.”
This is not the first time Kid Rock has sparked controversy. In March 2020, EW reported that Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk & Rock ‘n’ Roll Steakhouse in Nashville would close voluntarily after refusing to comply with Nashville Mayor John Cooper’s request to close bars and limit the number of people dining at restaurants in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
A few months later, rumors arose that Kid Rock and pro golfer John Daly were attempting to go maskless at the last presidential debate between Donald Trump and now-President Joe Biden, despite both having been pro-mask mandate only a few months before.
